Secretary of State offers free notary public seminars across South Carolina

Secretary of State Mark Hammond is offering six free regional notary public seminars this summer and fall for all South Carolina notaries and those interested in becoming a notary. These sessions offer a reminder that the 2014 legislative session brought many critical improvements to the law regulating South Carolina notaries public. Most sections of the law had not been updated since the 1960s.

Notaries public hold an important position of responsibility. It is critical to understand the duties and responsibilities of notaries under the law. The key function of a notary is to protect citizens against fraudulent activity. Once commissioned as a notary public, it is the responsibility of the notary to maintain a level of training necessary to perform the duties of the position as required by law. These seminars will address state laws governing the duties and responsibilities of notaries. In addition, the seminars will provide information how notaries can avoid pitfalls related to the unauthorized practice of law.
These seminars are a public service of the Secretary of State’s Office. Attendees are welcome to attend any of the notary seminars regardless of their county of residence or the location of the seminar.
Doors will open at 5:30 pm on the day of the seminar; seminar will begin promptly at 6:00 pm; seminar will conclude by 7:30 pm.
