Secrets of Entrepreneurship – Do you have the entrepreneurial spirit?

Entrepreneurs think differently from the rest of us.
They possess a childlike faith in their own success.
They don’t fear failure, setbacks or others’ opinions.
They recognize that failures teach valuable lessons.
It’s how they learn what works and what doesn’t.
That renews their determination to try something else.

Thomas Edison is one of the best examples of this.
He saw a need that he might be able to fill.
The Industrial Revolution had created changes.
Industry needed light 24 hours a day.
Candles and gas lamps provided flickering light.
They also caused thousands of devastating fires.
Edison went to work to develop an electric light.
His first bulb took thousands of experiments.
Each step required inventing such components as:
• Vacuumed and sealed glass bulbs.
• Switches and special types of wire and meters.
• A material to serve as a long-lasting filament.
He found the solution in carbonized cotton thread.

But that wasn’t the end of Edison’s bulb work.
Thread gave out after 13 continuous hours of light. Later, he found a longer lasting filament.
Carbonized bamboo lasted over 1,200 hours.
His first large-scale test was September 4, 1882.
He lit 25 buildings in New York’s financial district.

Golf pro George Bryan is another example.
Golf, believe it or not, is losing enthusiasts.
That’s disturbing for anyone in the golf business.
George didn’t sit on his hands awaiting the end.
He stepped up recruiting young players for the game.
He figured youth was the future for golf.
They are the future for any of our businesses.
He developed a roll-up indoor putting green.
That let golfers practice in winter and bad weather.
He’s developing other products for golfers.
