Senior national retail brand strategist Doug Poppen to present at Endeavor’s August Collaborators & Cocktails Educational Speaker Series
August 2, 2017Client-Side Marketer to Share Work, Best Practices for both Agencies and Clients
Endeavor, a membership-based coworking community for independent agencies and freelancers in the creative services fields as well as corporate marketing teams, is hosting its next Collaborators & Cocktails, a monthly networking series for members and pre-registered guests, on Thursday, August 17. The speaker is Doug Poppen, senior brand strategist. Most recently, Poppen served as the vice president of marketing and corporate communications at Bojangles’ Restaurants, Inc.
Poppen, a career client-side marketer, has worked with dozens of ad agencies over the course of his career working for several major brands. He will share his perspectives on agency/client relationships, a range of successful creative campaigns, as well as best marketing practices he experienced over the years.
“Doug’s keen insights on how different forces make brands relevant and engaging are important for any marketer – client or agency side – to hear,” said Joe Erwin, president of Erwin Creates and founder of Endeavor. “His deep experience in bringing together digital, social media and customer relationship marketing to drive repeat traffic to the retailers he served can provide inspiration and direction for any brand.”
While at Bojangles’, Poppen was responsible for stewardship of the brand’s marketing and promotion strategy, brand strategy and positioning, marketing and consumer research and insights, marketing analytics, and pricing strategy. His team led the organization’s digital marketing & social media, customer relationship marketing, PR and media relations, multicultural marketing, corporate communications and events, and corporate social responsibility disciplines.
Prior to Bojanges’, Poppen was in marketing management roles with Lowe’s Companies, Inc., the second-largest home improvement retailer in the world. He created and deployed an environmental marketing strategy which earned Lowe’s both the ENERGY STAR and WaterSense Retail Partner of the Year awards from the U.S. EPA, the first time in history a single partner held both awards simultaneously. Poppen also held marketing and merchandising management positions at franchisors Circle K Stores and Carl’s Jr. Restaurants. He is an adjunct faculty member at the Belk College of Business at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he received his MBA.
Collaborators & Cocktails starts with networking at 5 p.m., with the speaker giving a presentation and Q&A session at 5:45 p.m. The event is free to all Endeavor members and corporate members, with a limited number of advance purchased guest tickets available for $30.
