Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands opens search for next Executive Director

May 10, 2019

The Board of Directors of Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands (STSM) announces the search for its next Executive Director.

“We are grateful for the leadership that Mary Dell Hayes has provided STSM as Executive Director,” Katie Fox, President of STSM’s Board of Directors, said. “She has guided the organization during a time of tremendous growth, and we are confident that her skills, experience, and drive will be of great benefit to every organization she serves in the future. We look forward to Mary Dell remaining an active member of our organization’s expansive network of advisors. The Board of Directors has formed a search committee and will open a national search to identify the best person to guide STSM into the future. ”

Mary Dell Hayes has been employed with STSM for more than ten years in the roles of Volunteer Services Coordinator, Director of Development, and Executive Director. During her tenure, Hayes has focused extensively on increasing accessibility to STSM services by guiding the opening and expansion of offices in Newberry, Sumter, Clarendon, and Lexington Counties. Hayes is responsible for the expansion of prevention programming to support parents through Kitchen Conversations, and the launch of a program to support faith communities in responding to issues related to sexual abuse. The agency has grown under her direction to employ more than 40 community members with a budget of $2.9 million. Hayes will leverage this experience in her new venture, StopGap Solutions, providing interim support and grant writing to nonprofits going through change or expansion.

“It is bittersweet to leave the agency where I have experienced so much personal and professional growth, but I am excited to transfer my skills and experiences to a new arena,” Mary Dell Hayes, STSM’s Executive Director, said. “I leave knowing that STSM is in a strong position financially, administratively, and is governed by an incredibly skilled Board of Directors.”
