Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands plans to raise $10,000 in 24 hours for 10th annual Walk A Mile In Their Shoes

April 8, 2019

On Tuesday, April 9, Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands (STSM) is hosting “Day of Healing,” a 24-hour fundraising effort for the tenth annual Walk A Mile In Their Shoes (WAM) event.

STSM’s Day of Healing encourages the 1,200 registered WAM participants to fundraise at least $20 for survivors of sexual assault, STSM, and the no-cost services STSM provides in the fight against sexual violence. Start a survivor’s healing journey on April 9 with a donation of $20 or more.

“Twenty dollars provides a change of clothing to a survivor in the hospital who has their clothing confiscated during the evidence collection process of a sexual assault exam,” Mary Dell Hayes, STSM Executive Director, said. “We ask all Walk A Mile participants and individuals in the Midlands to show their support of ending sexual violence in our community and help us break a record – raise $10,000 in 24 hours for survivors of sexual assault in South Carolina.”

STSM will be celebrating the day’s success at the tenth annual Walk A Mile at the SC State House Grounds on Thursday, April 11 at 5 p.m. This family-friendly event encourages the community to stand up against sexual violence in SC and stand with survivors.
