Shannon Pierce announces campaign for U.S. Congressional District 4
March 27, 2018
Shannon Pierce, a nurse and entrepreneur from Greenville, S.C. announced her campaign for U.S. Congressional District 4 at a campaign launch at The Beacon in Spartanburg.
Pierce, who grew up in the Upstate, spoke of her background growing up in poverty, of her struggles to put herself through nursing school, and of the challenges of starting a business from an idea. In 2004, she left her job as a critical care nurse when she patented a solution that addressed more effective, individualized healthcare in a mobile platform—years before smart phones were the norm. She subsequently founded CareCam, which has since become New Oceans Health Solutions, where she maintains the titles of founder and member.
“To be here today, making this announcment, is monumental for myself and for my family,” said Pierce. “At the age of 12, I was told by a school superintendant that I would never amount to anything. I am happy today to say that he was proved wrong, as I have become a nurse, an innovator, an entrepreneur, a jobs creator, and a healthcare consultant—and a wife and mother, as well. I am a prime example that the American Dream still exists, and I hope to ensure that that dream lives on for individuals future generations through my service in Congress.”
Pierce joins a host of other candidates in contest for the seat, held currently by Representative Trey Gowdy, who announced earlier this year that he would not seek reelection for another term.
About Shannon Pierce
Upon graduation from Clemson University’s College of Nursing, Pierce began her career as a critical care nurse. It was during her tour of delivering frontline care that Pierce bore the idea for a platform that enabled the accurate collection and storage of clinician data to be accessed for enhanced communication, and turned it into a business venture. Pierce now serves as company founder and member of New Ocean Health Systems (formerly CareCam), as an advisor and participant in economic development conversations across the Upstate of South Carolina, and as a consultant to a number of companies in a variety of capacities. As such, she has been instrumental in a number of policies and national discussions on the national healthcare system, its challenges and opportunities. She currently volunteers with students, entrepreneurs, health systems and economic development agencies to inspire others to pursue their biggest dreams, but her proudest accomplishment remains her family: her husband Olly, who is also a small business owner, and their adult sons, Evan and Aidan.
