Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina Awards $77,500 in Grants

COLUMBIA, SC – May 15, 2012 – The Sisters of Charity Foundation of SouthCarolina has awarded 21 Caritas grants, totaling $77,500, to nonprofitand faith-based organizations meeting the basic needs of the underservedin South Carolina.

Caritas grants are for organizations providing outreach services to the poor and marginalized. They are one-year grants designed for organizations with annual budgets of less than $600,000.

“The demand for food, clothing, shelter, free health programs and other basic needs continue to increase,” said Mike McCabe, board chair of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina. “We hope these grants will make a small impact and benefit the people these organizations operate to serve.”

Caritas grants are up to $5,000, and are awarded twice a year. Organizations wishing to apply for funding should visit the Foundation’s Web site, sistersofcharitysc.com, for information on the application process. The next Caritas grant application deadline is October 2, 2012.
