Smith Moore Leatherwood to Host Furman University Juried Art Competition
February 12, 2015GREEVILLE, SC – Smith Moore Leatherwood LLP is pleased to announce a partnership with Furman University to host a student art competition. Furman students will have the opportunity to submit a three-dimensional piece of work, and from those submissions, many will be chosen for display during a public exhibition at the law firm’s office opening on Friday, April 16. The winner’s piece will be purchased by Smith Moore Leatherwood and become a part of its permanent display.
Smith Moore Leatherwood’s collection includes many pieces of local artwork displayed in their new offices in the One Development, with additional pieces from attorneys’ private collections.
“Greenville is home to many incredibly talented artists, and we wanted to show our appreciation to the local arts community, in addition to encouraging and recognizing the talents of the next generation of artists through Furman’s arts department,” said Tami McKnew, attorney at Smith Moore Leatherwood.
Ross McClain, associate professor and chair of the art department at Furman University, is overseeing the competition which is themed “Justice.” In addition to being on public display, the students’ work will also be available for sale. “We are grateful that Smith Moore Leatherwood has provided an opportunity for our students to share their work with the public,” said Professor McClain. “It is our hope that the exhibition and competition will motivate the students to do their best work in addition to giving them a taste of the business side of art, understanding the sales process.”
