Snack Stick Program Helps Keep South Carolina Children Fed During Christmas Break

December 14, 2025

As South Carolina schools prepare to close for Christmas break, thousands of children across the state are facing a familiar and urgent challenge: the loss of daily access to school meals. For many families, weekend backpack programs provide their only consistent source of food, and the need for assistance always increases during the holidays.

This is why the Snack Stick Program, operated by South Carolina Hunters for the Hungry, is especially critical this time of year.

Through the program, South Carolina Hunters for the Hungry provides high-protein venison snack sticks to backpack food programs serving children and families across the state. The snack sticks are lean, organic, and shelf-stable, making them a nutritious option for children when school is not in session.

The organization partners with backpack programs statewide to help ensure children have access to protein-rich food on weekends and during extended school breaks, when food insecurity often becomes more pronounced.

Community support plays a vital role in meeting the increased demand during the holiday season. Donations directly support the Snack Stick Program, with:

  • $10 providing snack sticks for children participating in weekend backpack programs

  • $100 helping supply high-quality protein for families who need it most
