South Carolina Chamber of Commerce names W. Tobin Cassels III 2024 Business Leader of the Year

October 2, 2024

The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce (SC Chamber) announced Southeastern Freight Lines President W. ‘Tobin’ Cassels III as the 2024 recipient of the organization’s annual Business Leader of the Year Award, in recognition of his compassionate leadership, unwavering commitment to community involvement, and positive impact on South Carolina’s supply chain.

“Tobin is a servant leader whose leadership style is centered around his Southeastern teammates,” said SC Chamber President and CEO Mike Brenan. “He spends most of his time creating, belief, alignment, and teamwork, resulting in excellence. By any nature, Southeastern is often recognized for its excellence in everything they do for their customers and teammates. Despite being a servant leader himself, Tobin’s ultimate servant leader is Jesus Christ, which is evident in everything he does to better the lives of his teammates and those in his community. We are proud to recognize him as our 2024 Business Leader of the Year and look forward to celebrating him at the 45th Annual Summit.”

Southeastern Freight Lines, a family-owned business founded in 1950 with the belief that “if you take care of your people, they will take care of the customer, and that will take care of the future”, is the leading provider of regional less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation services, operating 89 service centers spanning 13 states, Canada and Puerto Rico, with over 8,500 associates.

“Being able to serve in my role is one of the greatest joys of my life,” said Cassels. “We have an amazing team here at Southeastern and frankly, that makes my job easy and a whole lot of fun!  Our focus is how we can have a positive impact with our company, starting with our people but also with our customers and others in our communities.”

The SC Chamber’s annual Business Leader of the Year award recognizes an individual who is the embodiment of personal success, and who has demonstrated a business record based on ethical conduct and corporate responsibility, public service, contributions to the preservation of South Carolina’s government, and commitment to creating a favorable business climate to improve the state’s economy. Cassels’ father Bill is a past recipient of the Business Leader of the Year award.

Cassels will be recognized during the SC Chamber’s 45th Annual Summit, presented by Ogletree Deakins, October 28th-30th at the Wild Dunes Resort in Isle of Palms, South Carolina.
