March 12, 2026

South Carolina ETV and Public Radio (SCETV) invites members of the public to attend a studio taping of Palmetto Perspectives on March 18 from 7 – 8 p.m. at SCETV studios in Columbia. The upcoming episode will examine the political power of women in South Carolina and the opportunities and challenges surrounding women’s participation in public office. The episode of Palmetto Perspectives filmed on March 18 is scheduled to air on April 23 at 7 p.m. on ETV.

Palmetto Perspectives fosters thoughtful dialogue on the most pressing issues facing communities across the state. This episode examines why, although women make up approximately 51 percent of South Carolina’s population, they remain significantly underrepresented in elected leadership positions.

According to data from the Center for American Women and Politics, representation levels in South Carolina rank among the bottom three states. Historically, only nine women have held statewide constitutional office in South Carolina, and the state has never elected a woman to serve in the U.S. Senate. The discussion will examine barriers women may face when seeking office, including fundraising challenges, recruitment gaps and work-life considerations, while also highlighting the civic and policy benefits associated with broader representation.

Hosted by Sierra Artemus, the episode will feature a panel conversation with community leaders, policymakers and advocates focused on identifying pathways for women’s civic engagement and leadership across South Carolina.

Prior to the taping, attendees can engage with civic organizations around information on elections and even register to vote. The episode taping will include a studio audience, offering attendees the opportunity to observe the discussion firsthand and engage in an ongoing public conversations about civic participation and leadership.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend. Seating is limited, and advance registration is required.
