South Carolina Legal Services announces Kirby Mitchell as NLADA Board Member

South Carolina Legal Services (SCLS) proudly announces that Kirby Mitchell, SCLS’s Senior Litigation Attorney, and President-Elect of the Greenville County Bar Association. has been appointed by the National Legal Aid & Defender Association (“NLADA”),  to serve a two-year term on NLADA’s national Board of Directors.

NLADA is America’s oldest and largest nonprofit association devoted to excellence in the delivery of legal services to those who cannot afford counsel.  With its national headquarters in Washington, D.C., NLADA provides advocacy, guidance, information, training, and technical assistance to the equal justice community, especially those working in public defense and civil legal aid.

A graduate of Furman University (1990) and University of Georgia School of Law (1996), Kirby has served as Staff Attorney and Managing Attorney of SCLS’s Greenville Office, and he currently heads the firm’s innovative Medical Legal Partnership (MLP) which is a partnership with SCLS, Greenville Health System and Furman University (the 1st MLP in South Carolina).

As a member of the NLADA Board of Directors, Kirby will oversee NLADA’s policies, governance and programming in its efforts to secure wider access to counsel  and achieving NLADA’s high purpose mission of access to justice for all.
