South Carolina Osteopathic Medical Society elects new Board of Trustees
June 24, 2019The South Carolina Osteopathic Medical Society (SCOMS) officially swore in its 2019-2020 Board of Trustees at the SCOMS Annual Meeting on June 14.
Adam Bruckner, DO, a family physician at Family Medicine and Geriatrics – Southside in Aiken, is president. (He is pictured left). Dr. Bruckner received his medical degree from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia and completed his Family Medicine Residency at the Columbus Regional Hospital System in Columbus, Georgia.
Ronald Januchowski, DO, FACOFP, associate dean for curriculum, assessment and medical education at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Spartanburg, is president-elect. Dr. Januchowski received his medical degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his Family Medicine Residency at Womack Army Medical Center and his Family Medicine Faculty Development Fellowship at UNC Chapel Hill. He serves on the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners and is a member of the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners.
Matthew Cannon, DO, associate dean of clinical affairs at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Spartanburg, is treasurer. Dr. Cannon received his medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He also works as a Board Certified Family Medicine Physician at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System.
Rebecca J. Bowers, DO, assistant professor for osteopathic manipulative medicine at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Spartanburg, is past president. Dr. Bowers received her medical degree from Midwestern University- Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency training at Mercy Health Partners NMM/OMM in Muskegon, Michigan. She is the owner/physician at Fulcrum Osteopathic Wellness in Greenville.
John Gould, III, DO, FACP, FAAHPM, an internal medicine physician at Three Rivers Medical Associates in Columbia, is a trustee. Dr. Gould received his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. He completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Palmetto Health/ University of South Carolina School of Medicine. A Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Gould serves as medical director at Lutheran Hospice and as an assistant professor for clinical track at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Spartanburg.
Ryan Hakimi, DO, MS, FNCS, NVS, a neurologist and director of inpatient neurology services and director of neuro ICU at Prisma Health Upstate in Greenville, is a trustee. Dr. Hakimi received his medical degree from Michigan State University Osteopathic Medicine and his Master of Science in Environmental Health, Major Radiological Health from the University of Michigan-Rackham Graduate School. He completed a Neurology Residency at Michigan State University-Botsford Hospital and a Neurocritical Care and Stroke Fellowship at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Hakimi also serves as an associate professor in the Department of Medicine (Neurology) at the USC School of Medicine Greenville.
Scott Klosterman, DO, osteopathic track director in family medicine at the Spartanburg Regional Family Medicine Residency Program, is a trustee. Dr. Klosterman received his medical degree from A.T. Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at the Medical College of Georgia.
Lindsay Tjiattas-Saleski DO, MBA, FACOEP, director of North Greenville Emergency Department at Prisma Health in Greenville, is a trustee. Dr. Tjiattas-Saleski received her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (Now Rowan) and completed her residency in Family Practice and Emergency Medicine at Aria Health in Philadelphia (now Jefferson University System). She also serves as an assistant clinical professor at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville.
Sara Kepple, DO, a family medicine resident at Spartanburg Medical Center, is the resident trustee. Dr. Kepple received her medical degree from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia and a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience from George Mason University.
Brooke Burkins, a second year medical student at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Spartanburg, is the student trustee. She received her Master of Science in Medical Sciences from the University of South Florida.
SCOMS seeks to improve and promote public health in the state of South Carolina by the advancement of the science and profession of osteopathic medicine. In addition, SCOMS collects and disseminates information of professional interest and value to members of this Society and elevates and maintains the standards of the Osteopathic profession in the state of South Carolina.
Membership is open to osteopathic physicians practicing in the state of South Carolina who are graduates of an osteopathic college of medicine that is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association and who hold a license from the Board of Medicine of South Carolina to practice as an osteopathic physician.
