South Carolina Partnership of Disability Organizations to host the 29th Annual Disability Advocacy Day

February 28, 2018

The South Carolina Partnership of Disability Organizations invites the public, lawmakers and community partners to attend the 29th annual Disability Advocacy Day on Wednesday, March 7, 2018. This will be our 29th year in gathering advocates, community partners, and the public to raise awareness in preserving services and supports for people with disabilities, as well as honoring South Carolina communities who have proudly accepted, embraced, and included those with disabilities.

Our theme is Stronger Together: Bringing Individuality to Where we Live, Work and Play.

Disability Advocacy Day will be held on the North side of the South Carolina State House grounds.  Registration begins at 9 a.m. with activities starting at 10.  Events include a rally, walk, and meet & greet with the legislators to show the value of people with disabilities. Rally will include such speakers as ,SC State Treasurer, Curtis Loftis, Self Advocates and Parents, beginning promptly at 10 a.m.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, persons with disabilities are twice as likely to be unemployed than those without a disability. Disability Advocacy Day is an event that not only gives a voice to people with disabilities, but educates the public and lawmakers on how difficult it is to get the necessary services and supports so that people with disabilities can be independent, as well as demonstrating the value people with disabilities bring to the community.

The South Carolina Partnership of Disability Organizations is a coalition of non-profits whose aim is to assure self-determination, independence, empowerment, integration and inclusion of children and adults with severe lifelong disabilities in all aspects of society.
