South Carolina Universities Awarded Over $5 Million in Grants

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) todayannounced more than $5 million in grants for the Medical University ofSouth Carolina and the University of South Carolina.

The grants were awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services.

Medical University of South Carolina – $2,697,555

$1,338,159 for a project entitled “Southern Consortium Node of the Clinical Trials Network”.
$619,865 for a project entitled “Biomarkers in Autism of Aripiprazole and Risperidone Treatment (BAART)”.
$395,518 for a project entitled “Impact of Adolescent Alcohol Exposure on Prefrontal Cortical Function in the Adult”.
$344,013 for a project entitled “Stress-induced Drinking in OEF/OIF Veterans: The Role of Combat History and PTSD”.

University of South Carolina – $2,335,610
$816,227 for a project entitled “South Carolina Cancer Disparities Community Network – II”.
$640,110 for a project entitled “Long-Term Lung Health After Exposure to Chlorine Gas”.
$609,018 for a project entitled “Strengthening Quality in School Mental Health”.
$270,255 for a project entitled “Characterization and genetic analysis of aging”.
