South Carolina’s only organized Suzuki Music School awarded capacity building grant
March 22, 2026Suzuki Academy of Columbia, the only organized Suzuki music school in South Carolina, has been awarded a Capacity Building Grant from Central Carolina Community Foundation to strengthen its long-term sustainability and strategic growth.
This project is supported by a Capacity Building Grant from Central Carolina Community Foundation.
Serving more than 100 students in violin, cello, and guitar, the Suzuki Academy provides music education rooted in the internationally recognized Suzuki Method, a philosophy built on the belief that every child can learn. The Method emphasizes early childhood development, parental involvement, and character formation through music.
The grant will support strategic planning, board development, and operational improvements as the Academy continues expanding its reach across the Midlands.
“As a board member and parent, I see firsthand the confidence and resilience this program builds in our students,” said Jen Bowen, Board Member of the Suzuki Academy of Columbia. “As the only organized Suzuki school in the state, we have both an opportunity and a responsibility. This investment allows us to strengthen the foundation behind the scenes so we can continue serving families at the highest level.”
Executive Director Sarah Evanovich said the award supports thoughtful, mission-driven growth. “Capacity building ensures we are not just growing, but growing well into the future,” Evanovich said. “Our mission is grounded in the belief that every child can learn, and this grant helps us build the structure needed to support that vision long-term.”
Founded to provide high-quality, accessible music education, the Suzuki Academy of Columbia is committed to developing excellence, character, and community through music.
