Southern Wesleyan University to dedicate new northeast Columbia learning center

COLUMBIA, SC – August 29, 2008 – Southern Wesleyan University is celebrating a move to the northeast area of Columbia.

The university’s Columbia Learning Center is now located in Pinnacle Point Business Park, adjacent to I-77 and just off Farrow Road. Southern Wesleyan University now occupies more than 16,000 square feet of space in the building.

All Southern Wesleyan University students, graduates, employees and community friends are invited to attend a dedication, ribbon cutting and open house at the new location on Sunday, Sept. 21, 3-5 p.m. The university will present guest speakers, music and tours of the new facility.

“This location brings us closer to a larger number of our students. It also should be more convenient for most commuters,” said Southern Wesleyan University Provost Keith Iddings.

For the past 18 years, the university has been located in the Granby Building on Charleston Highway in Cayce.

“Although our current space in the Granby Building has served well for many years, an aging facility and shifts in student demographics have convinced us to set out for new territory,” Iddings said. “A great many of our students and faculty have mentioned this need and we have listened.”

Southern Wesleyan University’s main campus is in Central, S.C., and classes are offered in Columbia, Greenville, Greenwood, Spartanburg, North Augusta and Charleston. The university was founded more than 100 years ago by leaders who promised to “help men and women become what God has designed them to be.”

Southern Wesleyan University prepares students for leadership and graduate study in such fields as business, education, religion, music, medicine, law, religion and a variety of civic and social service professions.
