Spartanburg Community College Names Union Native as Site Coordinator for the Union County Advanced Technology Center

SPARTANBURG, SC – March 21, 2011 – Spartanburg Community College (SCC) recently named Union native, Kathy Jo Lancaster, as the site coordinator of the Union County Advanced Technology Center. In this leadership role, Lancaster will manage and implement the daily operations at the Union County Advanced Technology Center (UCATC). She is responsible for SCC student enrollment and retention in Union, which includes the marketing, communications and outreach to the local community.
 
“I am honored for the opportunity to come back to my hometown and work with local partners to educate our residents. Together we will provide a much needed economic boost to our community through the development of hands-on training, certifications and job skills required to successfully compete for highly technical jobs,” said Lancaster. “Our vision is to change the lives and build the futures of our students and to promote economic development through a collaboration of efforts and excellence in the programs we offer.”
 
A graduate from Union High School, Lancaster participated in Leadership Union and is a Union Lions Club member-at-large. “Not only has Kathy Jo been with the College for 13 years, she also knows Union well and understands the community’s needs,” said Dr. Para M. Jones, SCC president. “Because of her vast knowledge and experience in higher education, we know she will serve Union well.”
 
Lancaster previously held the position of admissions coordinator at SCC and has over 20 years of experience in higher education in various positions including student affairs, admissions, career services, recruiting, counseling, financial aid and student records.
 
In her new role at the UCATC, Lancaster will continue partnerships with local businesses to identify employer needs and expand upon the current corporate and continuing education offerings to provide the training necessary to meet those needs. Tentative additions include offering interactive broadcast courses and conference capabilities for the business community.
 
Regarding SCC’s academic offerings at the UCATC, Lancaster plans to expand transitional course offerings as well as student support services like tutoring, career counseling, academic advising, test proctoring services to the UCATC. She will also offer student activities, workshops, seminars and information sessions for students and community residents.

“Any student that would like to attend SCC can now come to the Center for complete services, whether they will take classes in Union or at one of SCC’s other locations in Spartanburg or Cherokee counties,” adds Lancaster. “Onsite services at the Center include applying to the College, placement testing, meeting with an admissions counselor for acceptance, academic advising, registering for classes and fee payments. We are fully operational and ready to serve new and continuing students of Union County right here in our own community.”

  • Introduction to Early Childhood

  • Critical Reading
