Spartanburg Community College Offers Free Commercial Driver License Training Information Session
January 19, 2011SPARTANBURG, SC – January 19, 2011 – Spartanburg Community College will hold a free one-hour information session for anyone interested in becoming a licensed class A commercial truck driver. The information session will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the SCC Tyger River Campus in the BMW Center, room 308.
According to the State of Logistics Report from the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, the U.S. trucking industry will seek to hire approximately 200,000 drivers by the end of 2011.
SCC’s Corporate & Community Education Division recently partnered with Tri-County Technical College to provide Commercial Driver License (CDL, class A) training at SCC’s Tyger River Campus beginning in February.
“Tri-County Technical College provides a successful program in Anderson County with a 95 percent job placement rate for students who pass the license exam, so we are excited to work with TCTC to provide individuals in our three-county service area the opportunity to train for a career with good pay in a high demand industry,” says Rebecca Clusserath, SCC Corporate & Community Education program manager.
The commercial driver’s license (CDL) training program lasts four weeks and covers 50 hours of tractor-trailer operations and regulations along with 110 hours of intense, hands-on training and driving. At the end of the program, students will take the CDL test. Students will also receive job-placement assistance with top-ranking trucking companies.
To be accepted into the program, students must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record, able to read and write at a minimum eighth grade level and pass a Department of Transportation physical and drug screening test. The CDL Truck Driver Training classes will be held at the BMW Training Center at SCC’s Tyger River Campus in Duncan, S.C.
