Spartanburg Community College taps Ethan Burroughs as new Vice President of Economic Advancement

Today, Spartanburg Community College announced the hiring of Mr. Ethan Burroughs as the College’s new Vice President of Economic Advancement. Having served as a Market President and Commercial Relationship Manager with Wells Fargo Bank in Spartanburg for more than thirty years, Mr. Burroughs brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position, which serves as the key solutions provider for economic vitality in the Upstate of South Carolina.

Mr. Burroughs’ knowledge, experience and community focus will greatly enhance and facilitate the College’s mission of serving as the comprehensive nexus between higher education and the regional economy.”

As Vice President of Economic Advancement, Mr. Burroughs will work with business and industry to enhance the comprehensive nexus between Spartanburg Community College and the broader regional economy. Overseeing a newly organized Office of Economic Advancement, Mr. Burroughs will manage the innovative Spark Enterprise Campuses in both Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties as well as corporate education and training, the SCC Foundation, and business talent solutions.

I am excited about this new opportunity and look forward to helping us continue to move forward,” said Mr. Burroughs. “Having served in a volunteer capacity on numerous boards and committees intimately involved in the curation of economic growth, I am excited to begin working full-time at Spartanburg Community College with all our great regional partners, such as OneSpartanburg, Inc and our regional workforce development boards. Together, we can take advantage of the resources and talent throughout our service area to maximize them to their fullest potential and help ensure our community continues to move forward well into the future.”

For thirty years, Mr. Burroughs served as President of the Spartanburg Market and Commercial Banking Relationship Manager for Wells Fargo Bank where he worked to acquire, manage, and grow relationships of medium to larger sized business customers.

In answering a call to service to his community, Mr. Burroughs has also served in various capacities with numerous boards and foundations serving the Upstate of South Carolina:

  • The Mary Black Foundation — Trustee (2013 – Present)
  • One Spartanburg Inc. — Board Member (2010 – Present)
  • Chapman Cultural Center — Board Member/Board Chair (2010 – 2018)
  • The United Way of the Piedmont — Board Member/ Campaign Chair (2011 – 2016)
  • The Urban League of the Upstate — Advisory Board Member (2008 – 2011)

Mr. Burroughs lives in Boiling Springs with his wife, Donna and their three children Morgan, Rachel, and Luke.
