Spartanburg Community College To Host Job Fair to Recruit Part-Time Faculty Members

SPARTANBURG, SC – May 24, 2011 – Spartanburg Community College(SCC) will host a Job Fair to recruit qualified part-time facultymembers and provide an opportunity for interested individuals to meetwith SCC’s hiring managers. The part-time faculty job fair will be heldon Tuesday, May 24, 2011 from 4 – 7p.m. at SCC’s central campus inSpartanburg.

 
SCC is seeking part-time faculty members with a wide variety ofbackgrounds and experience in all academic areas of the college. “Manypeople aren’t aware that you do not have to have teaching experience tobecome an adjunct (part-time) faculty member at the College,” said MaryWhitener, employment and training manager for SCC human resources.”Because SCC offers a variety of courses that require different levelsof educational and professional experience, faculty members can teachthese courses with a combination of degrees and professional workexperience.”
 
Specific teaching credentials and educational requirements for the different types of courses offered at SCC are as follows:

Transfer Courses
Faculty members teaching transfer courses must have a master’s degree and 18 graduate hours in one of the following disciplines

  • Humanities/fine arts
  • Social/behavioral sciences
  • Natural sciences/mathematics

Non-Transfer Courses
The minimum academic degree for faculty teaching in professional,occupational and technical areas must be at the same level at which thefaculty member is teaching. A typical combination is a bachelor’s degree with appropriate work experience.

Diploma/Certificate Programs
Faculty members teaching courses in diploma and certificate programareas are required to have some college or specialized training in thediscipline area with emphasis on competence through work experience.

Developmental Education
Faculty members teaching developmental education courses must have abachelor’s degree in the discipline area being taught and workexperience or graduate training.

SCC’s part-time teaching positions offer new or seasoned faculty members college-level teaching experience, as well as an opportunity foradditional income.
