Spartanburg Water employees train for environmental safety, reporting and state permitting
January 26, 2016Seven associates can now participate in voluntary certification program
GREENVILLE, SC – Seven of Spartanburg Water’s Reclaimed Water Treatment employees recently participated in the Water Environment Association of South Carolina’s (WEASC) Biosolids School in Greenville. The two-day class covered important subjects like environmental safety, reporting and state permitting.
“The Biosolids School has proven beneficial to our reclaimed water treatment operators and staff that attend,” said Ken Tuck, Spartanburg Water Director of Water Treatment. “We had spirited participation in this latest class.”
Seven Spartanburg Water employees attended the workshop and are now eligible to take the SC Voluntary Biosolids Certification exam, which helps the utility determine employees’ aptitude and ability to apply technical skills gleaned from participation, said Spartanburg Water Reclaimed Water Treatment Lead Operator Lance Johnson.
“As with all education, having employees that are knowledgeable in their field, in this case biosolids handling, helps our organization be more versatile and efficient,” Johnson said.
As a result of attending the class, Spartanburg Water Biosolids Operator Matthew Cooper volunteered to serve as a member of the South Carolina Biosolids Committee, which meets periodically to discuss changes in regulations and new technology. The committee also provides material for training events and conferences.
The event also included training in groundwater/surface water protection, and biosolids land application site select/management.
