Spartanburg Water team wins hands-on competition at state environmental conference

March 29, 2018

Spartanburg Water operators and technicians are responsible for operating drinking water and reclaimed water treatment facilities, solve complex problems, respond to emergencies, and perform analyses related to water safety every day. Every spring, a small group of Spartanburg Water employees get a chance to receive training, meet service vendors and network with other utility professionals at the South Carolina Environmental Conference (SCEC). They also get a chance to show off their skills and competitive side in several contests.

This year, a four-man team from the Collection and Distribution (C&D) department competed in the fast-paced “Pipe Tapping” contest and brought home the top prize. The team members are timed as they tap a water pressurized iron pipe, cut copper tubing for installation of a water service line and connect this line to a meter. The team’s winning time was under two minutes.

Congratulations to team members David Wright, James Edwards, Tim Burrell and Brian Howell for their winning time and dedication in representing Spartanburg Water well. Pictured with Corey Reid, Distribution Department Manager, on left.
