Special Needs Therapy Finds a Home

January 29, 2009

COLUMBIA, SC –  January 28, 2009 – The Therapy Place, Inc. announced today that its 2009 Conductive Education summer camp programs will be hosted by Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in the Trinity Center for Mission & Ministry.

Conductive Education is a unique way of helping children with motor disorders, such as cerebral palsy, gain independence both physically and socially.  Children ages six months to 14 years will receive therapeutic exercise and some age-appropriate educational instruction for three hours per day, five days per week, for five weeks starting July 13, 2009.

The theory behind Conductive Education is that the central nervous system has the capacity to form new neural connections, despite neurological damage.

The 2009 program marks the first time Conductive Education has been offered in the midlands of South Carolina.

Dawn Darby, Board President for The Therapy Place was amazed at the facilities offered by the Trinity Center.  “When we heard the news that the space was available, we had no idea how beautiful the location would be.  The families will be so at peace in this setting, despite the hard work and long hours that they must complete over the five weeks.”

Roger Hutchison, director of the Trinity Center for Mission & Ministry, commented “Trinity is honored to be able to provide a space for the summer program!  We are certain to be blessed by these children and their families!”

Additional programs are being planned by The Therapy Place as they continue their mission of bringing innovative therapies within reach, both physically and financially, to families with special needs children in the midlands of South Carolina.

Despite the incredible donation of facilities for this program, fundraising will still be needed to pay for equipment, the Conductor therapist, family scholarships, insurance, etc.  To help, please visit www.thetherapyplace.org and click on information regarding the April 20 charity golf tournament.
