Spring Essentials – Suede Is A Key Player
March 24, 2015By Brian Maynor
Now that we are firmly in spring, it’s time to get your seasonal groove on.
When it comes to spring the fundamental rule may be light, bright color, but with the range of weather and temperatures the season brings it can be hard to know how and when to use them. Luckily this season offers a fashionable answer: suede.
Suede is luxurious, delicate, versatile and elegant and will instantly elevate your style, but if it reminds you of the 1970s, this season will change your mind. Here are a few tips to navigate this season’s super trend:
1. Even here in the South coats are more of a necessity than an accessory this time of year with cool mornings and warm days, but you don’t want something that’s overly stuffed or heavy. Suede is the ideal balance. It’s thin but warm and this season comes in a multitude of colors and styles.
2. If you want to be a bit more daring with your suede pieces, you will have plenty of options this season. Suede dresses; skirts; pants and shirts are all elements to pull off this trend, and as a side note the fashion-forward will go all in with a full head-to-toe look.
3. This is probably one of the biggest trends for menswear this season and one of the easiest. Whether you choose a classic style or trendy one, loafers, lace-ups and sneakers all get a boost of elegance when they are suede.
4. Suede is a delicate fabric, but that doesn’t mean you should be scared of it. You just need to know how to take care of it. A common perception is that you shouldn’t wear suede in the rain, but that couldn’t be farther the truth if you treat it with a protectant. After that, it’s a matter of maintenance by removing dirt with a suede eraser or brush. If you have a deeper stain you can use a suede shampoo.
From clean lines and silhouettes to full bohemian throwbacks you have plenty of suede looks to choose from this season and you also get to choose how much or how little of the fabric you incorporate into your wardrobe. Just remember, like all luxury goods, it requires some upkeep and attention to stay in top form.
