St. Andrews Corridor Task Force to host public meeting at Saluda Shoals Park

April 19, 2017

The St. Andrews Corridor Task Force will host a public meeting on Thursday, April 20, at 6:30 pm in the Environmental Center Auditorium at Saluda Shoals Park. The task force would like to invite the community to attend and discuss decisions being considered to revitalize the St. Andrews corridor.

St. Andrew’s Road is the gateway corridor to one of the Midlands most beloved and visited attractions, Saluda Shoals Park. The Park has had a tremendous impact on the local and regional economy. New athletic fields, tennis courts, boat landing and expanded trails continue to attract increasing numbers of visitors. For the fiscal year 2015-2016, the Park hosted seven unique sporting events with an estimated attendance of 30,000 whose economic impact was $2,300,000 on our local economy.
In addition, St. Andrew’s Road is home to numerous residential neighborhoods and commercial developments, many that are aging and in need of revitalization. St. Andrews Road has the capacity to become a beautiful and vibrant corridor that will attract new businesses, civic facilities, and residential opportunities that reflect the natural beauty and recreational assets of Saluda Shoals Park, the Saluda River and Lake Murray.

Lexington County and the Michael J. Mungo Foundation have provided grant funding for the Boudreaux Group to develop a plan. Through the St. Andrews Corridor Task Force, stakeholders, investors, and community leaders came together to brainstorm ways to improve the corridor with a focus on concepts for gateways at strategic intersections, streetscaping, signage, pedestrian amenities, and areas for potential development. The results of these sessions will be the topics of discussion at the public meeting.
