State Museum presents Summer Edition of Museum Roadshow, Aug. 27

The Museum Roadshow: Summer Edition, one of the South Carolina State Museum’s most popular events, is back Saturday, August 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to learn about the stories and value of their heirlooms and artifacts from experts in a variety of fields who will be on-site offering informal, verbal appraisals. Experts will be available in the areas of fine art, silver, pottery, furniture, books, jewelry, textiles and dolls, as well as military artifacts.
New this year, in conjunction with the blockbuster exhibit, RACE: Are We So Different?, the museum will partner with Richland Library to hold a genealogical workshop that will include working with African-American and Native American genealogical information. Professionals from Crawford Conservation will also be available to provide guests with information about caring for and preserving artifacts.
“This is the perfect opportunity for guests to rummage through their attics or basements for those old family heirlooms they’ve been wondering about,” said Celeste Wszola, programs manager at the State Museum. “The roadshow might be the only chance to learn more about those items, including their stories, significance and value.”
Tickets are $25 for the first item ($20 for museum members), $35 for two items ($28 members), $40 for three items ($32 members) and $45 for four items ($36 members). There is a limit of four items per person. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the museum or by calling 803-898-4999 or the day of at the museum from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
