Statewide coalition hosts disability benefits & employment workshop – August 17

FLORENCE, SC  – The SC Disability Employment Coalition is thrilled to announce their upcoming Disability Benefits & Employment Workshop on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at the Florence Library (509 South Dargan Street, Stukes Meeting Room). State and private organizations will be available to assist individuals with disabilities interested in returning to work or increasing their earnings. This free workshop will focus on dispelling myths about disability benefits and work. After the workshop, a resource fair will be held for individuals to connect directly with community organizations.

“We know that barriers to employment for people with disabilities still exist in South Carolina,” says Sandy Jordan, Director of Employment Programs with Able South Carolina. “The barriers that people encounter can be quite daunting, but we are committed to educating people about their rights and the services available to support them in meeting their employment goals. Seventy percent of individuals with disabilities in South Carolina are unemployed however are capable of competitive, integrated employment.”

“Disability Benefits & Employment: Make it Work for You!” is brought to you by the SC Disability Employment Coalition. The Coalition is made possible with funding from the Administration for Community Living and the SC Developmental Disabilities Council.

ABOUT THE SC DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT COALITION

The SC Disability Employment Coalition (SCDEC) formed in the fall of 2014 to address employment barriers for individuals with disabilities in South Carolina. SCDEC is comprised of over 40 stakeholders that represent SC employers, state and private agencies, and individuals with disabilities.
