Steve Sumner speaks at Law Week
May 24, 2016DUI lawyer Steve Sumner was recently the featured speaker at the Greenville County Bar Association’s “Law Week Luncheon” on April 25th. The event was held at the Poinsett Club.
Sumner addressed this year’s theme — “Miranda”: More than Words.” The presentation consisted of the significance of the Miranda v Arizona decision, along with significant subsequent court cases addressing “Miranda rights” issues. The luncheon speech was part of LAW WEEK 2016.
President Dwight Eisenhower established the first Law Day in 1958 to mark the nation’s commitment to the rule of law. In 1961, Congress issued a joint resolution designating May 1 as the official date for celebrating Law Day. Every president since then has issued a Law Day proclamation to celebrate the nation’s commitment to the rule of law.
Sumner primarily handles misdemeanor and felony DUI/drunk driving cases. He is a former DUI prosecutor and has been in private practice since 1994.
In 2016, Sumner was named to “The Best Lawyers in America” in the field of DUI defense. He is a lifetime charter member of the “Best Attorneys in America – Rue’s Ratings”. Sumner currently represents clients in over 25 courts in Upstate South Carolina. These courts include Greenville, Anderson, Spartanburg, Pickens and Laurens counties; as well as the city/municipal courts of Greenville, Anderson, Spartanburg, Simpsonville, Mauldin, Greer, Fountain Inn, Easley, Clemson, Central, and Laurens.
