Stevens & Wilkinson will design York County Government Center

COLUMBIA, SC – Stevens & Wilkinson, a full-service architecture, engineering and interior design firm, with offices in Atlanta, Ga. and Columbia, S.C., has been awarded the design contract for York County, South Carolina’s new Government Center.
The Center will be located on the same block as the county’s current historic courthouse. The new building will feature approximately 80,000-square feet of modern, state-of-the-art office space for several of the county’s key departments. The County Manager’s Office, County Council Chambers, County Auditor’s Office, and County Finance Office will be among those slated for inclusion to the new center.
“This is an exciting opportunity for our South Carolina office,” states Ashby Gressette, Stevens & Wilkinson’s South Carolina president, principal, and director of architecture. “While we are currently working with Fort Mill School District on their upcoming Training and Support Center, our team had yet to collaborate with York County’s governing body on a project of this size and magnitude. Stevens & Wilkinson will begin work on the initial phases of program verification and design in concert with Columbia-based Program Manager, Cumming Corporation Management. The team hopes to successfully address the challenges of designing a new facility that adheres to the architectural language and style of the area’s historic context. The new Government Center is scheduled for occupancy in late 2018.
