Straight Street of Laurens ReOpens with Large Attendance

Earlier this year it was announced that Van Tumblin would be the next Executive Director for Straight Street of Laurens. The center had been closed since November 8th with the retirement of Wayne French who served as Executive Director.

Last week Straight Street officially reopened on Friday night and the turnout was strong for both Friday and Saturday night. It’s estimated that around 90 kids attended on Friday night and 85 on Saturday night. Straight Street originally opened almost 29 years ago and it is clear that there is still a need.

“I think we had a great turn out considering the weather. Looking forward to more great evenings with better weather for outdoor events including  basketball,” said Van Tumblin. “We will be open every Friday and Saturday night from 7-11. We have lots of things in mind to make this a place the whole community can get involved with and be proud of!”

Straight Street is located at 220 West Main Street and the center is open on Friday and Saturday nights from 7-11 pm. All 7th-12th graders are welcome at the center.
