Stroud joins FOCUS as assistant director

During the December 20, 2016 regular monthly meeting of the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees, the board approved the hiring of Larry Buchanan “Bucky” Stroud as assistant director at FOCUS.

The district’s FOCUS program meets the needs of students at risk of expulsion. Students in the program regain their desire to learn, accept responsibilities, make positive changes in their lives, view education as important and better understand the importance of education for success.

Stroud comes to Lexington District One from Lexington School District Four, where he began his career in 1998 as an eighth-grade teacher at Sandhills Middle School. In 2000, he began working at Swansea High as a social studies teacher, becoming truancy officer and administrative assistant there in 2010.

As director of career and technology education in Lexington School District Four from 2012 to 2014, Stroud pulled from his previous experiences at Swansea High and formed a welding program partnership between Swansea High School and Nucor Corporation, expanded course offerings for students, and helped to establish internship opportunities at local businesses.

Stroud became assistant principal at Frances Mack Intermediate School in 2014 and at Sandhills Middle School in 2016. As AP, he handled disciplinary issues, organized and supervised schoolwide testing, observed teachers in the classroom, and planned, coordinated and reviewed school safety drills. He also served as a member of the Frances Mack Intermediate, Sandhills Middle and Lexington School District Four leadership teams.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in history and a Master of Teaching in secondary education from the University of South Carolina and an Education Specialist degree in education administration from South Carolina State University.
