Studio 2LR, Inc. Architecture + Interiors earns Preservation Award for Adaptive Use in historic Cottontown District

Studio 2LR, an architecture and interior design firm with an emphasis on sustainable contemporary design, earned a 2016 Historic Columbia Preservation Award for Adaptive Use in the Cottontown neighborhood.

The building, located at 1209 Franklin Street, first housed Metts & Baker Welding and later became home to an auto-repair shop. Frank Cason with Cason Developers, along with partners Porter Barron and Rhett Elliott, shared a vision of turning the space into a barbecue joint and bar called The War Mouth.

“Frank, Porter, and Rhett had a great vision for the building, and it was exciting to help them make that vision a reality. They wanted the renovation to be true to the historic nature of the building, including sealing the old concrete floors with years of wear and character, leaving the existing steel angle roof bow trusses exposed and reusing the old exterior red wooden barn door as part of the décor on the interior. It was great to be a part of such a collaborative and creative group.” commented Wes Lyles, President of Studio 2LR
