Stylishly traverse crisp mornings; cool evenings and warm days

I know I’m not the only one loving this change in weather and hoping it lasts for awhile, but the range we experience throughout the day can make dressing a bit of a challenge.

Beyond layering, which is the standard go to, it’s important to know what pieces to layer to embrace fall in all its glory. Here are a few key pieces and tips for transitioning your summer style into a fall one:

1.    Longer lines. Whether it’s longer skirts or longer sleeves, covering more of your arms and legs is a quick and easy nod to the cooler temperatures. With so many lightweight t-shirts and unlined textured skirts available the added length won’t add extra weight.

2.    Deeper colors. If you don’t want to change up the type of pieces you’re wearing, simply changing the color is enough to make an effective transition. If you’re going to go this route, you definitely want to overplay the palette. Shorts, short-sleeve shirts and even linen blends can still be worn as long as the colors are dark and muted.

3.    The most important layer. When we think of layering we often focus on shirts and sweaters, but sometimes it’s still too warm for a sweater, so instead opt for a lightweight scarf. Not only will it add some color, texture and warmth when needed, they look great with short-sleeve tops in the mornings and tied around your bag in the afternoon. Scarves have the magical ability to pull together just about any outfit.

4.    Boots. Always a sign of fall, it may still be a bit early for tall boots, but ankle boots and booties give you the substance associated with fall. They look heavier and give you a sturdier look than loafers and flats.

5.    Upsize your bag. Summer is all about keeping things light and small, but with all these extra layers you need to traverse the day you need a place to store them. Not to mention a small umbrella that may come in handy in the afternoon. So bid adieu to the cross body bags, clutches and small satchels and break out the holdalls and larger totes. Luckily one trend of this season is reversible bags, so you can get two for the price of one, and who doesn’t love that deal?

Successfully transitioning into fall is more than just the act of adding one more layer. You want to make sure it’s the right layer that blends the two seasons of your wardrobe together effortlessly.
