Successful Lake Greenwood Cleanup Effort Reflects Community Commitment

In a display of community spirit and environmental stewardship, over 20 dedicated volunteers braved the rain on Saturday to participate in the cleanup of Riverfork Access and sections of Riverfork Road for the Lake Greenwood cleanup initiative. Led by Keep Laurens County Beautiful and the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, the event aimed to enhance the beauty of the area and promote responsible waste disposal practices.
Courtney Stonell, Beautification Affiliate Coordinator with the Laurens County Chamber of Commerce, expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic participation of the volunteers. She stated, “Thank you to the dedicated volunteers who showed up to help us and Keep Laurens County Beautiful clean up the Riverfork Access and portions of Riverfork Road today for the Lake Greenwood cleanup!”
Despite the less-than-ideal weather conditions, the volunteers worked hard, filling over 50 bags with litter collected from the shoreline and roadway. Among the commonly found items were fishing line, aluminum cans, and pieces of Styrofoam from takeout boxes and coolers. This cleanup not only beautifies the area but also plays a crucial role in protecting the local ecosystem from the harmful effects of improperly disposed waste.
A special acknowledgment was extended to American Legion Post 25 and Bethlehem Union Church for their support during the cleanup effort.
Stonell concluded saying, “Please clean up after yourselves and put litter where it belongs! Together we can keep our county clean.” This sentiment echoes the broader message of collective responsibility in maintaining the beauty and ecological integrity of our shared spaces.
