Summer day camp at Greenville Tech expands offerings for 2019

Greenville Technical College’s Adventure Tech summer day camps for middle schoolers returns for the 2019 season with new camp offerings – drones, coding, pet care, sustainable gardening and personal radio, to name a few – as well as expanded offerings in culinary and advanced manufacturing education.
Adventure Tech camp sessions will run June 3 through August 1. Registration begins Tuesday, March 5; however, those who sign-up for the camps’ mailing list prior to February 18 at www.GTCSummerCamps.com/ will receive an exclusive early bird discount opportunity.
A new half-day, four-day camp session format will allow students and parents to choose a morning and afternoon session to create a full day’s adventure, explains Christopher Rico, Adventure Tech program manager.
“Rising 6th through 8th graders are invited to explore career pathways with interactive, hands-on learning in our state-of-the-art learning environments at each of our camps,” said Rico. “Created as an opportunity to reach middle schoolers early in their career planning stages, we hope that this experience will both enrich and define their future, as well as provide an exciting and fun few days with their peers.”
Greenville Tech faculty will teach the majority of the camp sessions, which are offered at three GTC campuses across Greenville County.

Culinary Academy sessions include both basic and advanced cooking and baking weeks that feature the skills of flavoring with herbs and spices and learning how to make basic sauces and roasted chicken, Danish pastry, rolls and braids of breads and candies and chocolates. This camp also offers a “Healthy to Fun Week” where students will learn how to make healthy flavorful snacks, experiment with vegetables and learn how to make a few variations of the classic comfort food, macaroni and cheese.
Camp session costs range from $129 to $189 per student. A “passport” registration option gives parents a $10 per camp discount if registering for more than one camp session at the time of registration. Scholarships are also available for the culinary camps. Registration is first come, first served and is limited to 12-15 campers per session.
