Community Champions launch campaign to celebrate small businesses during May

Small businesses experienced devastating impacts and declining sales as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. A recent survey of 35,000 small and medium-sized business owners worldwide found that South Carolina is recovering faster than the national average. (Global State of Small Business Report, Facebook)

Small Business Month is an annual event which recognizes the contributions of entrepreneurs and small business owners. The Columbia Chamber, Columbia Economic Development, BlueCross BlueShield South Carolina, and ByFarr joined forces to create an integrated campaign to spotlight local small businesses.

“As we begin to rebuild post-Covid, we want to celebrate our small business community,” said Carl W. Blackstone, President and CEO of the Columbia Chamber. “The SupportSmallSaveLocal campaign focuses on strengthening our community and reinforces the fact that for every dollar spent locally, we create jobs here at home,” continued Blackstone.

The campaign features local independent businesses. A robust website featuring an interactive map and list of Chamber Partners can be found at www.SupportSmallSaveLocal.com. A business after-hours event showcasing small businesses and hosted by the Columbia Chamber, the greater Cayce West Columbia Chamber and the City of West Columbia will be held on May 13, 2021 at the Riverwalk Amphitheater.

Other components of the campaign include postcards which can be picked up at local coffee shops and the Columbia Chamber. The cards are free of charge and are intended for the community to write a note of thanks to their favorite local business. Billboards are posted across town and posters have been provided to retailers. “This is a simple show of support to let the small business owners know Columbia supports them and Columbia cares,” continued Blackstone.
