Susan G. Baker to Keynote Columbia College Commencement

COLUMBIA, SC – Columbia College is proud to announce philanthropist and author Susan G. Baker as the 2015 undergraduate commencement speaker.

Baker is co-founder and past chairman of the National Alliance to End Homelessness, an organization that works with the public, private and non-profit sectors to prevent and end homelessness. She is also a former member of the Board of Families for the Homeless, a bipartisan group of concerned families with ties to presidential administrations, Congress and the media. Baker is married to former Secretary of State, James A. Baker III.

“Susan Baker is a wonderful example of the courage, motivation and servant-leadership that inspires Columbia College graduates,” said President Beth Dinndorf. “She has viewed history from a front-row seat and has used her influence to drive change for people in need.”

Baker’s autobiography, Passing It On, was first published in September 2010. Each graduate is being presented with a copy of the book as a gift from Bob and Janice Suber McNair ’59.

Columbia College’s undergraduate commencement will include 220 bachelor’s degree candidates and will take place Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Columbia. Commencement exercises for 40 candidates for master’s degrees will take place Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at College Place United Methodist Church in Columbia.
