March 27, 2018

Last Sunday’s second annual Tacos n’ Tequila Fiesta, hosted by High Spirits Hospitality, celebrated the talents of local chefs and bartenders with a competition for best local tacos, cocktails, and side dishes.

The event filled the Old Cigar Warehouse with enough food and drink to keep Greenville food lovers satisfied for hours. With almost 1,200 people in attendance and an impressive list of local restaurants and bartenders as vendors, close to 10,000 tacos were consumed over the course of the Fiesta.

One of the biggest draws of the event was the taco and cocktail competition. Awards were given to Casey O’Mara with Rocket Surgery for Best Overall Lunazul Tequila Cocktail; Wren Arrowood with Gringo’s for Most Creative Cocktail; Cody Briner with Tin Lizzy’s for People’s Choice Best Cocktail; Jorge “Papi” Barrales with Papi’s Tacos for Best Overall Taco; Richard King with White Duck Taco for Most Creative Taco; William Cribb with Willy Taco for People’s Choice Best Taco; Roland Boland with Chuy’s Tex Mex for Best Sidekick; and Ji-roz restaurant was recognized as the Social Media Star. The finalized list of winners in posted here.

Lunazul Tequila was the presenting sponsor, while Gold level sponsors included Modelo, GVLToday, Complete Public Relations, RNDC, Heaven Hill, Greenville Technical College, FamZing Photography, Bravo1 Protection and Liquid Catering. Proceeds benefited Greenville Tech Culinary School.

“This year’s event was everything we had hoped,” said Tammy Johnson, High Spirits Events’ chief executive officer. “Everyone had a great time recognizing one of the best taco scenes in the Upstate. We are already excited to provide an even better Tacos ‘n Tequila event next year.”
