Tammy Coghill joins ExecEd as director of business development
March 31, 2025Tammy Coghill, a widely experienced professional in the field, has joined the Darla Moore School’s Executive Education program as director of business development.
Her job, a new position with ExecEd, is to expand the program’s visibility and opportunities, not only among companies and industries interested in Custom Solutions, but individual businesspeople seeking to advance their careers through the school’s Open Enrollment courses. She is tasked with making ExecEd better known as the middle ground between degree-granting entities and the technical schools that provide training for both businesses and prospective employees.
“This new business development position allows the rest of the team to focus on creating and delivering world-class programs across South Carolina and beyond,” she said.
Tammy says the career path that brought her here “can definitely be described as non-linear.” But she adds that from her early years as a special education teacher and in nonprofit management, and continuing through her experience in county and private sector community and economic development, there are common threads. She consistently focuses on using communication, data, strategy, problem solving, and coalition building to facilitate connections and grow the organization while building opportunities for others.
“That involves listening to people and organizations about what their pain points are, being where they are, and finding a way to help them,” according to Tammy.
She was born in Miami, but moved to South Carolina in the ’70s, and attended high school in Ware Shoals. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Charleston and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of South Carolina.
She has worked in managerial positions with Dominion Energy and its predecessor SCANA, WPC Engineering, Liollio Architecture, and Lexington County. And now, she is back in education, which has “always been a passion.”
She is, and has been, highly involved in community service, currently serving as immediate past chair of the Trident Technical College Foundation Board of Trustees. She previously served on the boards of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, Charleston Regional Development Alliance and College of Charleston Alumni Association. Her professional memberships have included South Carolina Economic Developers Association, Southern Economic Developers Council, International Economic Developers Council, International Asset Management Council, and Charleston Women in International Trade.
Tammy, who currently resides in the Lowcountry, is also an avid and recognized nature photographer. You can view some of her photos on her website www.tlcimages.org. Because of this, State Park cabins with biking and hiking trails tend to be the vacation of choice for Tammy and her husband, Tim.
