Ten at the Top Honors Erwin Maddrey, Milestone Anniversaries During Regional Forum

November 19, 2012

UPSTATE, SC – November 19, 2012 – As part of the theme “Celebrating Successes: Great Things Happening Across the Upstate”, Ten at the Top (TATT) recognized a number of individuals, businesses and organizations during the Upstate Vision Forum on November 15th at Greenville Tech.

During the Forum, TATT announced the new Welling Award for Regional Collaboration, which is named in honor of the first chairman of Ten at the Top, Irv Welling, III. The award will be given annually to an individual, business or organization that has consistently demonstrated a commitment to regional collaboration and partnerships. The initial award was presented to local businessman Erwin Maddrey, who has been active with a number of regional organizations in the Upstate throughout his career including Ten at the Top, Upstate Forever and the Urban League of the Upstate.

Also recognized during the forum were 39 companies, organizations and initiatives celebrating milestone anniversaries of 20 or more years* in 2012.

“The story of the evolution of the Upstate can really be told through the history of these companies and organizations,” said TATT Executive Director Dean Hybl. “Three pillars of a community are education, health and human care and business and the companies and organizations celebrating milestones in 2012 have helped enrich the Upstate in those important areas.”

In addition, TATT honored as “Founding Funding Partners” the 37 companies, organizations and individuals^ who provided three-year funding commitments to the organization during its first full year of operations in 2010.

“It really illustrates the commitment that the Upstate has to advancing long-term success that so many would be willing to support a fledgling organization with a mission to promote strategic planning, partnerships and collaboration,” Hybl said. “Without their willingness to make a multi-year commitment, TATT would not now be completing our third full year of service to the Upstate.”

TATT focuses efforts on promoting collaboration and advancing initiatives around five driver areas: Community Vibrancy, Economic & Entrepreneurial Vitality, Human Potential, Natural Beauty & Resources and Sustainable Growth. During the Forum, five organizations or initiatives were highlighted for the work they are doing in the Upstate. Videos capturing the efforts of these organizations are available on the Ten at the Top web site.

The organizations and initiatives recognized include:
Community Vibrancy: South Carolina Festival of Flowers – Greenwood
Economic & Entrepreneurial Vitality: SC Works Upstate – Cherokee, Spartanburg, Union
Human Potential: Glendale Outdoor Leadership School – Spartanburg
Natural Beauty & Resources: Rocky River Conservancy – Anderson
Sustainable Growth: Connections for Sustainability – City of Greenville
