The 15th Annual Reedy River Duck Derby raises record $87,280

July 24, 2019

The Rotary Club of the Reedy River Greenville presented checks to 12 local charities for a combined amount of more than $87,000 on Tuesday evening, raised from the 15th Annual Reedy River Duck Derby.

More than 10,000 yellow rubber ducks went over Reedy Rivers Falls in May as part of the annual fundraiser where people adopt ducks in order to win prizes like Publix groceries for a year and a chance to win one million dollars; $2,500 from the Rotary Club of the Reedy River Greenville; and a golf weekend at Embassy Suites by Hilton on Verdae.

However, the big winners this year are the local charities. This year’s recipients included Mauldin Miracle League, Early Act First Knight, United Ministries, Trees Upstate, Carolina Youth Symphony, SWITCH, Girls on the Run, Roper Mountain Science Center, Chicora Voices, Logos Theater, Carolina Dance Collaborative and STRIDES.

“This was a great year for the Derby and the people of Greenville,” said Wendy Green, president of the Rotary Club of the Reedy River Greenville. “We set a record for the second year in a row for ducks adopted and money raised that will help so many agencies make our community stronger. In addition we were able to give to a couple of our international projects, like bringing clean water to villages in Honduras and the eradication of polio.”

The Rotary Club of the Reedy River Greenville also recognized the Swamp Rabbits Hockey organization as the Business of the Year, for their on-going support of the Reedy River Duck Derby and their support of children in the community.
