The 18th Annual South Carolina Oyster Festival, Sunday, November 24, 2013

November 1, 2013

COLUMBIA, SC – November 24, 2013 – The capital city’s largest outdoor oyster roast is back. The 18th Annual South Carolina Oyster Festival, presented by Liquid Assets and the Historic Columbia Foundation, will be on Sunday, November 24, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the grounds of the Robert Mills House and Hampton-Preston Mansion. A portion of the proceeds from the festival will benefit the local non-profit, Pawmetto Lifeline.

The event is family-friendly, with the feeling of an afternoon picnic in the heart of downtown Columbia, SC’s historic district. Guests are encouraged to bring camp chairs and picnic blankets and can enjoy live music all day, a variety of food and drink vendors, inflatables for the kids, arts and craft vendors and more.

The South Carolina Oyster Festival brings in over 10,000 pounds of fresh oysters, sold steamed in buckets or fried in baskets from Pearlz Oyster Bar. Long shucking tables make for a fun, communal atmosphere.

The festival features two stages for live entertainment. The main stage will feature headliners and South Carolina’s own The Blue Dogs. Also on the main stage is Black Iron Gathering, growing in popularity for their high energy bluegrass-style anthems, and The Reggie Sullivan Band, one of the most highly regarded jazz ensembles in South Carolina.

The second stage will be produced and orchestrated by Listen Local South Carolina and will feature Pharoahs in Space and Jackaroe.

Oysters will be sold by the serving. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own gloves and knives to shuck oysters, or they can be purchased at the festival. Other food for sale will range from sandwiches to snacks to full plates from vendors and food trucks. Beverages such as beer, wine and soft drinks will be sold.

Pre-sale tickets will be sold for $5 at the Robert Mills House Gift Shop, at Pearlz Oyster Bar and online at www.scoysterfest.com. Tickets will be $10 at the door. Children 12 and under receive free admission. No coolers or pets, please.
