The Allstate Foundation Helps Build Safer, Stronger Families in South Carolina

CHARLESTON, SC – February 3, 2011 The Allstate Foundation’s philanthropic approach to inform, engage and empower Americans is catalyzing social change across the country and in the state of South Carolina. Whether it’s breaking the cycle of domestic violence, making roads safer for teens, providing economic education or rebuilding communities, funding from The Allstate Foundation is helping individuals fulfill their hopes and dreams.

 We have committed ourselves to addressing social issues that help communities grow and where we can have meaningful, long-term impact, said Allstate Southeast Region spokesman John Heid. Allstate employees and agency owners are giving back to their community through The Allstate Foundation by delivering the skills, resources and services needed to prepare and protect residents of South Carolina.

 Through partnerships with nonprofit organizations in 2011, the Foundation will continue to broaden its reach to influence sustainable change. Funding applications for community service organizations that support the Foundation’s mission will be accepted online starting Jan. 25 at www.allstate.com/foundation. Last year, The Allstate Foundation contributed more than $17.8 million nationally to develop and implement practical, proven programs for thousands of individuals and families facing personal challenges and uncertainties.

 In 2010, The Allstate Foundation contributed $234,636 in South Carolina, including 12 percent on economic empowerment services for domestic violence survivors, 38 percent on teen safe driving programs and 29 percent on other community activities. Funding recipients included: the South Carolina Chapter of the National Safety Council, City Year of Columbia and Sistercare.

 Since 1952, the Foundation has invested more than $237 million in communities across the country.
