The Auntie Karen Foundation announces its 14th anniversary and the 13th annual Young Entrepreneurs Conference

COLUMBIA, SC – The Auntie Karen Foundation is proud to announce its 14th anniversary on October 31, 2015. The foundation continues to be a beacon of the Columbia Metropolitan area and has served and provided many arts and service opportunities to youth throughout the midlands. It has stayed true to the organization’s mission “to empower, enlighten, and education through the arts”.
The Auntie Karen Foundation 13th Annual Young Entrepreneurs Conference embodies this mission and is scheduled for October 31, 2015 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Benedict College Development Center & David H Swinton Center (2:00 PM to 4:00 PM) in Columbia, SC. The founder Karen Alexander states, “Our mission is to continue to create a program that will nurture entrepreneurship in young people. We want to provide conference attendees with the opportunity to gain skills in areas not traditionally afforded to them.”
This one day event serves as a world-class conference to bring youth 7 to 22 from across the state and region together to gain skills in areas not traditionally afforded to them. Each year, up to 100 students from across the region participate in this thought provoking conference, which is offered through a cooperative effort between the Auntie Karen Foundation, Benedict College School of Business and various community sponsors. This year our theme is “Operation Connection”. Subject areas include: identifying entrepreneurial skills, marketing your business, and understanding business finance tools. In addition, students will interact with community, business, sports and entertainment leaders.
In addition to the conference, there is “Successville” the Youth Business Expo and Showcase. “Successville” is free and open to the public from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the Benedict College Swinson Center. The showcase will include Young Entrepreneurs, Dancers, and Musical Acts. Featured entrepreneurs include: Janae Ward, Something Fruity Owner, 2014 Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Kiera McFarlan, Vocalist, and Amina Cox, Visual Artist
Conference information: Registered participants: October 31, 2015 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Benedict College Development Center, 2601 Read Street, Columbia, SC 29204. Registered participants will receive breakfast and lunch. The cost of the conference is $17 per student before October 1, 2015, and $ 25.00 per student thereafter; Group Rate (10 +) is $17.00 per student. Pre-registration is available and encouraged. Onsite check in & Breakfast takes place from 8:15 AM to 8:45 AM the day of the conference. Workshops take place from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Lunch – 1:00 PM. “Successville” (FREE) Business Expo – 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM; Entertainment 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM (Benedict College Gym).
