The Barbara Stone Foundation gives over $30,000 in grants to Upstate organizations that offer special programming for people with disabilities

The Barbara Stone Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on supporting visionary and creative programs and initiatives for individuals with disabilities, gave four grants totaling $31,580 to Upstate non-profits in October 2021. Since 1991, the Barbara Stone Foundation has supported organizations in Greenville County that are committed to helping individuals with disabilities thrive through innovative programming. The following four non-profit organizations operating in the Upstate were awarded grants:
- Applied Theatre Center’s Spectrum Program – New theatre group offerings to existing programs including Greenville County Special Education classes, YMCA RECESS, Thrive Upstate and more
- Mary Sunshine House – Renovations to homes for people with disabilities located on Southern Wesleyan University’s campus
- Greenville Area Parkinson Society (GAPS) – Programs and resources to reduce social isolation for people with Parkinson including a community garden and nutrition classes
- Lions Vision Services – Provide low-vision equipment to Upstate residents
