The Basilica of Saint Peter’s new Pope St. John Paul II Activities Center has made its debut on Assembly Street.

Located between the Basilica of Saint Peter and St. Peter’s Catholic School, the activities center has made a perfect fit into the parish’s campus. At three stories and 31,220 SF, the new activities center will be used by the parish, school, and for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston to host various ministries, educational events, and outreach programs. The interior includes new offices, youth centers, a multi-purpose hall, media center, school and adult classrooms.

Over the past year, project partners Lambert Architecture + Construction Services, The Basilica of St. Peter, and Hood Construction, have worked in collaboration to bring the new addition on campus along with completing various renovations to the Parish. As the campus remained active throughout construction, great care and safety precautions took place in order to prevent disruptions to visitors or neighboring businesses.

“Much thought and time went into creating this space, and we are grateful that we got to be a part of the process with the team at the Basilica of Saint Peter. We look forward to seeing the children and parishioners use their new activities center for years to come,” said Hood Construction Vice President, Construction Management, Dean Wilson.“

The Basilica Parish celebrated the completion of their new activities center with a dedication ceremony on Saturday, February 22nd. The ceremony was presided over by the Most Reverend Jacques Fabre-Jeune, CS, the 14th Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston, and attended by many members of the parish and school communities. Speakers included the Bishop, Fr. Linsky, and representatives from Hood Construction and Lambert Architecture + Construction Services.

Fr. Linsky, the Basilica’s Rector stated: “To have opened a $9M building on time and without debt is a testimony of the commitment of our parishioners and friends to the 3rd century our presence and ministry in South Carolina’s capital city! We are humbled by how God continues to bless us!”
