The Blackbaud Index: Overall Charitable Giving up 5% in February and Online Giving up 13.8%

DANIEL ISLAND, CS – April 16, 2012 – The Blackbaud Index of Charitable Giving, a broad-based fundraisingindex that reports overall giving trends of 2,515 US-based nonprofitorganizations representing $7.4 billion in yearly giving on a monthlybasis, today reported that charitable giving rose 5% for the threemonths ending February 2012 as compared to the same period in 2011. TheBlackbaud Index of Online Giving, comprised of actual revenue data from1889 nonprofits representing $424 million in yearly online giving,reported that online giving rose 13.8% for the three months endingFebruary 2012 as compared to the same period in 2011.

The Blackbaud Index of Charitable Giving and The Blackbaud Index ofOnline Giving are currently updated on the 15th of each month (or thenext business day) and are based on a three-month moving average ofyear-over-year percent changes in US-based charitable giving. Theyrepresent the most comprehensive and timely sources of charitable givingavailable.

In an effort to provide even more timely data for the sector, startingMay 1, The Blackbaud Index will be released on the 1st of each month. Aspecial report will also be released that day featuring a closer look atthe expansion of the Index and the year-over-year performance for 2011.
