The BUZZ Turns One!
September 8, 2021You know the saying time flies when you’re having fun?
Well, we can’t believe that September 1, 2021, marked the first anniversary of the LaurensCountyBuzz.
The BUZZ is part of the WhosOnTheMove.com family of websites founded in 2006 by Alan and Cheryl Cooper. The BUZZ is a unique county centric website and eNewsletter started with a vision to bring the best of Laurens County to the people of the county. The concept is simple, we share all the great things that are happening in Laurens County. We have a focus on economic development, nonprofits, charitable organizations, community volunteers, school news and local entertainment.
Most news outlets should want to cover this news but how is the BUZZ different?
“The BUZZ is a news aggregate website,” said owner and publisher Brenda Stewart. “We provide businesses, organizations, school districts and other groups with a free platform to share their news and spotlight community contributions.”
So how does it work?
Businesses, nonprofits and other community groups can register for a free account. Once they have an account they can:
- create a directory listing
- submit news
- submit events
- post job openings
And there’s more – it’s free! The website is updated several times a day, so the news is current and available when you want it.
By far the most popular feature of the BUZZ is our free eNewsletter. We bring the news to your inbox every Tuesday and Thursday so you can stay informed about all things Laurens County.
For Laurens County and about Laurens County, the BUZZ will continue to bring you the news that matters and highlight the best of Laurens County.
“The response and support from businesses and the community has been overwhelming,” said Stewart. “In one year, we have grown a base of subscribers to the eNewsletter in the thousands and monthly website traffic in the hundreds of thousands. It’s gratifying to know that the BUZZ is filling a need in the county.”
Some highlights from our first year include:
- Community Conversations – interviews with Mayor Senn and County Council Chair Patterson
- Community Spotlights – highlighting the Good Shepard Free Medical Clinic, the Deputy Roger Rice Ride on Fund, the Laurens County Museum, Wilsons Curb Market, and the Laurens County Safe Home
- Creation of the Landau Fire Fund to support victims of the fire (Dec. 2020) raising over $50,0000
- Regular advance posting of County Council meeting agendas
- “Hello Weekend” a feature in each Thursday highlighting local events and weekend activities
So, what’s up next? Laurens County is on the move, and you can count on the us to bring you all the BUZZ of what’s going on!
