The Citadel to guarantee admission for military school graduates
December 18, 2023To further recognize the military and academic preparation students undergo at schools affiliated with AMCSUS, or the Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States, The Citadel will now guarantee admission to the Corps of Cadets for any graduate of an AMCSUS institution. To qualify, students must have a grade point average of 2.5 or above and be in good disciplinary standing.
“The Citadel takes pride in fostering an environment where military discipline and academics connect to create principled leaders for all walks of life,” said The Citadel President Gen. Glenn Walters, USMC (Ret.), ‘79. “We are molding future leaders here at The Citadel, and students at military schools have proven that they are prepared for a challenge. We are excited to see what these incoming cadets will offer to our institution.”
AMCSUS is an organization of schools with military programs, many approved by the Department of Defense, which maintain good standing in their regional accrediting organizations. Founded in 1914, AMCSUS membership includes 36 fully accredited military colleges, junior colleges and college preparatory schools. Since its founding, it has served as an advocate for the nation’s premier military colleges and schools.
“Our latest initiative with AMSCUS schools further demonstrates our commitment to the college’s mission,” said Sally Selden, Ph.D., SPHR, provost of The Citadel. “Our cadets are driven to succeed in leadership roles, frequently in the military, through our core values of honor, duty and respect. Our dedication to our longstanding history of distinction in both the military and academic sectors is reflected in our recent pledge to ensure admission for graduates of AMCSUS schools.”
The Citadel recently achieved a new milestone in its support of college and ROTC scholarships. A substantial contribution from The Citadel Alumni Association will enhance The Citadel’s Service to Country Tuition Scholarships and National Service Room and Board Scholarships for ROTC cadets.
“Military schools offer great opportunities for today’s students with their emphasis on academics, leadership and character. Students who have already gained firsthand experience of a military environment during their high school years are well prepared to succeed in a rigorous military and academic environment like The Citadel,” said Chad Faber, director of admissions for The Citadel. “The mission of The Citadel is to produce principled leaders and while many graduates go on to serve in the U.S. military, even more students take the skills they learn from a military school and apply them to be citizen-leaders across this country.”
The Citadel is ranked as the #1 Public University in the South for the 13th consecutive year, the #1 Best Colleges for Veterans in the South along with several other notable rankings. Since 2012, The Citadel has been in the Top 25 Undergraduate Engineering programs and is one of the first five engineering programs in the country. The college also has a 11:1 student-faculty ratio, ensuring each student has a hands-on learning experience and more opportunities to engage with their instructors.
